Mens Shed in Hawthorn

The Glenferrie Rotary Club is now awaiting approval of its application to set up its Men's Shed on a site in Hawthorn.

The common theme in all Men's Sheds is about men (particularly retired ones) feeling useful and contributing again to their communities, learning new skills or sharing their skills, making friends and networking.

Activities under consideration include: Woodwork, Metalwork, Leatherwork, Gardening, Restoring equipment such as toys or bikes, Pottery, Painting, Cooking, Computers and Photography. Often these activities are designed to help the elderly or other needy groups in the community.

The Men's Shed will also provide relaxation activities such as Cards, Board Games and Darts, or just chatting over a cup of tea. Men's welfare will be considered with activities such as Health Forums and Exercise Programs.

The first step taken by our Rotary Club was to survey locals to determine the level of interest in this concept and the result indicated strong support. Our next step is to secure a suitable site.
